The Bebop is completely out of fuel and food, leaving Spike, Jet, and Faye too weak to even move. Only Ed and Ein have the energy to venture out onto the desert planet Io to search for something edible. Meanwhile, two bounty hunters named Shaft and Decker are tracking down a guy called Coffee who's been dealing some kind of illegal mushrooms. Ed and Ein start collecting mushrooms they find scattered around, not realizing they're the psychedelic kind that Coffee dropped while running away. Everyone ends up eating the mushrooms and hallucinating like crazy—the bounty hunters think they're chasing each other in circles, and back on the ship, the starving crew sees food everywhere that isn't really there.
Ed eventually catches Coffee and collects the bounty, but turns out the reward is just a bunch of regular edible mushrooms instead of money. The crew finally gets to eat something, though they're still broke and stuck on Io without fuel. Ed and Ein end up being the unlikely heroes who save everyone from starving, even if the whole adventure was completely weird and trippy.
